The Amazon is the greatest river
in the world by the volume of water it carries to the sea
(approximately 20% of all the freshwater discharged into the
oceans), by the area of land that drains into it, and by its
length and width. At approximately 4,000 miles, it is one of the
longest rivers in the world.
Shown in the photo is the convergence of the
Amazon and Rio Negra.
